Automation Overview

Automation allows you to manage information pertaining to the printing and barcoding of instructional materials.

  3. Automation

Automation allows you to print the labels placed on the instructional materials in order to facilitate the distribution and collection process. It is especially efficient when using a scanner for campuses and distributing items to students and/or staff. Efficient scanning can be done using a handheld/portable scanner, such as a LS2208 SYMBOL Attached Scanner or the s700 Bluetooth Scanner, to scan ISBN and accession barcodes on instructional materials. Please refer to the Socket Scanner Configuration Quick Guide for more information.

Note: Instructional Materials Management uses bar code symbology code 128A. This is a high-density bar code symbology which is self-checking and is used for alphanumeric or numeric-only barcodes. Code 128A includes the following 44 characters: 1234567890ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ-. *$/+%

Instructional Materials Management does not create accession numbers with alpha characters. Third party labels with alpha characters may be used when setup within Tools > District Preferences > "Interface Options" Tab > Allow Alpha Numeric Accession Numbers (toggle on/off).
