Socket Scanner Configuration Quick Guide

This article explains how to configure the Socket Mobile S720 Bluetooth scanner for use with Instructional Materials Management by switching between “Application Mode” and “Basic Mode” on iOS and Android devices. Proper configuration ensures compatibility with mobile apps or general Bluetooth input (keyboard mode), depending on your use case.

Note:

  • If the scanner is currently paired, remove (“forget”) it from your device’s Bluetooth settings before proceeding.
  • Ensure the scanner is not connected to any device before scanning configuration barcodes.
  • Refer to the scanner booklet or the Socket Mobile user guide for additional instructions.

iOS Configuration

Application Mode (iOS)

Use “Application Mode” when scanning within supported mobile apps (such as Asset Management apps).

  1. Scan the “Application Mode” barcode below using the scanner:

  1. Install the Socket Mobile Companion app from the App Store or scan the QR code:

  1. Open the app and follow the on-screen setup instructions.
  2. Install the Asset Management app (search for "Inventory and Help Desk Management," “IHDM,” or "Hayes Software Systems") and begin scanning.

Basic Mode (iOS)

Use “Basic Mode” when the scanner should act as a Bluetooth keyboard (for use in Notes, Excel, or browser fields).

  1. Forget the scanner in Bluetooth settings and ensure it is disconnected.
  2. Scan the “Basic Mode” barcode below using the scanner:

  1. Pair the scanner via Bluetooth by selecting Socket and entering the serial number.
  2. The scanner will now input data into any Asset Management field with an active cursor.

Note: If pairing fails, toggle Bluetooth off/on or perform a factory reset using the scanner’s barcode guide.

Android Configuration

Application Mode (Android)

Use “Application Mode” for scanning within Android apps.

  1. Scan the “Application Mode” barcode below using the scanner:

  1. Install the Socket Mobile Companion app from Google Play or scan the QR code:

  1. Open the app and complete setup.
  2. Install the Asset Management app (search for "Inventory and Help Desk Management," “IHDM,” or "Hayes Software Systems") and begin scanning.

Basic Mode (Android)

Use “Basic Mode” when the scanner should function as a Bluetooth keyboard.

  1. Forget the scanner in Bluetooth settings and ensure it is disconnected.
  2. Scan the “Basic Mode” barcode below:

  1. Pair the scanner via Bluetooth by selecting Socket and entering the serial number.
  2. The scanner will now input data into any Asset Management field with an active cursor.

Note: If pairing issues occur, restart Bluetooth or perform a factory reset before retrying.
