Adding a Product Type to the Catalog

A Product Type is a categorization of the different types or groups of products in the Asset Management Catalog. For example, you may want to include a product type of laptop, calculator, desktop, white board, cell phone, etc.

Best Practices

  • Use generic names for product types that do not reference manufacturers or model numbers. For example, "Desktop" is a product type for all desktops, regardless of manufacturer.
  • Product Type names should be singular descriptors and not plural (i.e. "Table" instead of "Tables").

Add a Product Type

  1. Click on Catalog.gifCatalog located on the top navigation bar. 
  2. Click on Product Types under Management Quick Links on the left of the dashboard.
  3. Click on AddRecord.gif Add Record.
  4. Enter the name of the Product Type (must be unique) and provide a Description, if desired. 
  5. Click on Save.gif to save.
  6. Click on Cancel.gif to close the Product Types window. 

Edit a Product Type

  1. Click on Catalog.gifCatalog located on the top navigation bar.
  2. Click on Product Types under Management Quick Links on the left of the dashboard.
  3. Click on Edit.gif to the left of the Product Type you wish to edit.
  4. Make the desired edits to the Product Type name (must be unique) and/or Description.
  5. Click on Save.gif to save.
  6. Click on Cancel.gif to close the Product Types window.
